Playstation Network as it appears is still down for many customers. Some users are lucky and those would be the ones that have new models of PS3 Slim, only they can connect to PSN and play Multiplayer games or go to Playstation Store etc…
Playstation today released what is the status and what is causing the issue for Playstation Network to be down.
- The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
- When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”. - When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.” - When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)” - Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
PSN should be back for those that do not have PS3 Slim hopefully within next 24 hours , they say! PSN Admins also advise customers not to use PS3 until further notice.
You can read more about it from their blog post here.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT GO AND FIX 8001050F ERROR YOUR SELF! (MANY POSTED HOW TO FIX IT BUT ITS ACTUALLY VOIDING YOUR WARRENTY!) WAIT FOR THE FIRMWARE RELEASE!

i hope its up soon
Sorry for the interruption of this website as well, we have been hit with few hundred thousand visitors today.
This error also stops you from playing games purchased though the Playstation Shop. For example Wipeout HD now thinks it is an unregistered demo version and is asking me to purchase again. I think sony should fix this so that purchased downloads can be played offline.
