Recently, my old Google account was hacked. Luckily, I was able to close the AdSense account linked to that Google account. However, I was not able (and still not able) to retrieve the Google account. I tried pretty much all the possible ways in which Google allows you to retrieve an account but still failed. And unfortunately, Google does not offer real person support.
To be honest, my old password wasn’t that strong, but I wouldn’t say that it was weak. I would advise everyone who reads this to ask themselves “Is my password strong enough?”. I don’t think it’s a big worry setting up an easy to remember and weak password for…let’s say some random forum site that you will rarely visit, but for more important accounts such as your email, blog and ebay, it is vital to have a strong combination. One way you can test to see if your password is strong or not is by using a legit password strength checker. Beware to not use any random checker as it could be a scam website that remembers your password. To be safe, click HERE for one that is made by Microsoft.
And remember these simple rules:
- Do not use any dictionary words
- Do not include your username in your password
- Use a combination of letters and numbers
- At least 6 to characters long
- And yeh, the obvious one, don’t tell or hint anyone your password
Also, my friend wrote a very funny post called ‘Rat Protection v1.2‘. It’s about uncrackable passwords and internet security. Definitely worth a read.
