Just checked Google News and as it appears they are displaying Trending Topics (Top Stories)
Personally I think they should make button where you can expend it or collapse it. Looks like Google is trying hard to incorporate Twitter features, first Google Wave than Google Buzz and now “Top Stories” vs Trending Topics on Twitter.
Thoughts? You like it? No? Yes?
UPDATE: As it looks like, not everyone can see this! According to these buzz comments. But according to one Google Employee as it appears it is one of the “Google Experiments” .

Giant Google Vs Tiny Twitter – Good competition !! let us wait and watch what happens
Txs for sharing that with the community. What's Google's strategy? – It might be an indicator among many other initiatives recently, that Google is heading to become THE entry point to news. Today Google tries to be #1 as entry point, but tomorrow they might aim to become #1 as publisher as well. It is a small step from offering Blogs, Readers, etc. to integrating their content platforms in a larger portal solution.
