Full Motorola Droid Review

I have been playing with Droid for about one month now and here is my full Droid Review.

Droid Look and Feel

So far I had probably 20-30 smartphones that I played with but Droid for sure it’s something else. Comparing Droid to other phones like iPhone, G1, Storm, Palm Pixi or even Nexus One I must say it’s not the “best” looking phone but for sure looks good. When you put Droid in your front jeans pocket you almost think like it’s not there at all, yet when you sit down you might get poked a bit due to sharp edges.

With weight of 169g or 6 ounces you just don’t feel like it’s heavy at all when you are holding in your hand talking to somebody, but then again if you throw Droid at someone or something you might make some serious damages.

Pros:

  • Great looking phone
  • Light
  • Easy buttons

Cons:

  • Sharp Edges

Droid Display

Droid has great 3.7 inch display with  multifunction buttons like Back, Home, Search and Menu under the screen, considering that other phones don’t have big screen and no buttons on front body, Motorola made the screen really comfy. Since Droid is using Android OS 2.0 you get 3 screen pages, which you can modify the way you like it. You can embed Widgets, Apps, Photo Frame, Clock and bunch of other things which gives you enough room to set Droid the way you want it. The only thing I did not like with Droid vs G1 is how the icons are too separate from each other but that will not stop you from placing 20 of them on one screen!

Droid Hardware and CPU Performance

If I could describe to you the performance of Droid all I could say is “WOW” or “Damn Good”. Comparing to other phones Droid has some serious CPU speed performance. Even tho iPhone 3GS (only) has 600Mhz and Droid has 550Mhz I find Droid faster when it comes to running multiple apps, or application handling over all. See with iPhone 3GS I experienced many times that apps just hang and that is exactly what Droid does not encounter. But then again Apps on iPhone vs Droid are different. Over all I think it’s really good and you will not be disapointed if you are thinking to get one of these Speedy Gonzales. (RAM 256)

Droid Camera and Video Recording

I am not 100% sure if Droid has issues with taking pictures at night with flash but so far I was not satisfied with any pictures that I took. There is really no blurriness unless somebody waives at you or moves right at the moment when picture is capturing, but the problem I had was with the colors because they were totally off. In daylight with flash or without it 5MP camera is really good, so good that you might not need extra digital camera caring with you!  Recording is what amassed me the most! It’s DVD quality but that’s only if you are moving Droid slowly otherwise you might see some glitches which are not that annoying as I have seen on other phones. Overall camera and video recording is satisfying as long as it’s not in dark area, but as I said above I am not 100% sure if it’s just Droid I have because I have not seen anyone else complaining too much about it.

Droid Battery

From all features Droid has, I was  most satisfied with the Battery Life. I have not seen any phone performing that long. Droid was fully charged in the morning that same day I was on internet probably for 5-6 hours browsing Twitter, had multiple windows open, took some pictures and videos and at the end of the day I still had over 30% battery life left. When it comes to battery with 1400 mAh handling and life capacity is really good. Per specs sheet you can talk for about 7 hours but who talks that long, really? Now days most people spend more time texting.

Droid Keyboard(s)

Ah the slideout QWERTY keyboard! Makes life of texting, writing early easy. I have used QWERTY keyboard many times to write posts like this! and it did not bother me at all as long as I type fast. When I am using Twitter apps or browser I most likely use on screen keyboard which is pretty accurate. I love the fact that prediction text is scrolling right above the on screen keyboard, bad thing about it is that if you are writing in 5 different languages as I do makes my life bit harder. Why? Well because at the end of each word it actually replaces it with prediction. On many occasions instead spelling Mwd.com it was replaced by prediction text with Med.com so when I used my Twitter app m.mwd.com it was spelled few times wrong.

Droid Android OS 2.0

I was playing with Android OS 1.5, 1.6 and now Android OS 2.0 as well. So far 2.0 beats all others due to the fact that it handles battery life quite efficient, makes phones like Droid very powerful. To be honest Android OS 2.0 isn’t any much different than 1.6 which I am currently using on my G1. But then again only two phones have currently Android OS 2.0 installed: Droid and Nexus One!

Droid Full Review Overall

If somebody would offer me G1, Storm 2, iPhone or Droid as “smart phone” I would pick Droid for sure, even if somebody would offer Nexus One. Why Droid over Nexus One? Keyboard! I like the fact that I can use two keyboards on one phone QWERTY and On Screen Keyboard but that’s just me. People constantly send me emails and I write blog posts whereever I can and to use On Screen Keyboard via iPhone, Storm or Nexus One it’s just not cutting the speed. 3G speed is nice, in some occasions I think 3G is even to fast for phones like Droid because Web Applications can’t handle 3.2mbps or 7.2mpbs from T-Mobile, but if you are downloading / uploading  images, apps or using 3G for something else than browsing internet 3G really comes handy at all time. I like the fact that Droid comes with 16GB SD card

This Droid Review might be different for everyone, so If I say that it’s Good it might not be “Good” for you, or If I say taking pictures in dark isn’t that great that does not mean you might not like it. Over all I think Droid is really good smartphone for new and advanced smartphone users.

I would not recommend this phone to my friends that:

  • Do not use internet
  • Are not willing to spend $70+ phone bill for single line (With Verizon)
  • Who only Text and nothing else

But I would recommend to my friends that:

  • Are business owners
  • Love to browse internet
  • Love to take videos and upload to various social networks
  • Love to modify phone the way they want it
  • Tech Geeks
  • Older friends or friends that have vision problems

Well thats about it, I will embed few pictures below:
