Droid vs T-Mobile G1 Review 1

Since yesterday I started playing with new Droid and I must say it’s better than T-Mobile G1. If anyone as of this moment would ask me which one they should buy I would recommend Droid for sure.

Things I like in Droid:

  • Camera with Flash – G1 does not have flash and it’s only 3MP camera on top of that all G1 pictures are 20%-30% darker as of Android 1.6 firmware. Actually since I upgraded  G1 to 1.6 I have not been using camera at all because it has no value as it use to have before.
  • Qwerty – I love G1 qwerty keyboard just because I don’t have to use ALT button all the time so as far as the keyboard I would say G1 has better, yet due to the size of the keyboard Droid is smaller thinner.
  • Layout – Droid wins when it comes to Menu layout, it’s easy to use, but don’t get me wrong G1 has also good Menu but with Android 2.0+ I am sure that will all change.
  • Browser – I love the size of the display, browser somehow seems to be bit faster but then again it could be just the size of the display. Had no chance yet to test the 3G speed on Verizon vs T-Mobile 3G on my G1 (upcoming in Review 2)

What am I missing in Droid vs G1:

  • Trackball – Omg I was so use to track ball I used it probably 80% of the time for: copy, paste, cut, select all…etc
  • Apps – There is still bunch of Apps left that need upgrade so it’s compatible with Android 2.0 on top of that with Droid!
  • Space – Even tho my G1 screen is smaller, I can put more widgets or shortcuts on my home screen than on Droid. Droid is using too much space between shortcuts

Well this is my short review that I could compare G1 vs Droid within 24hours. I will do another full Droid review soon. Also if I get Nexus One I will definitely compare those 3 Android devices.

I disagree. you make it sound like the g1 is old technology and ITS NOT. the g1 has basically all the same features and can do the same things navigation, browser, apps ect.. my personal opinion i like the g1 above all and i am also a power user though and i believe most average users have or will upgrade soon cause the g1 "is old" to them but to power users we are not limited, we can upgrade to the latest android and installs custom roms/operating systems as i have and not only gives the phone all new icons and makes it look flashier and i can do way more things then your droid or any other phone can. like wifi tether i can connect to my laptop anywhere using my phone as a wireless router. can your droid do that?
  • Well its more like comparison of first and one of the latest Android devices
by different manufa....I do agree with you to some extend.

Not a fair comparison. The G1 is more than a year old (an eternity in smartphone years). This would be like comparing the Droid to the iPhone 3G (not 3GS). The Nexus One, or even Sprint's HTC Hero would be a more fair comparison.
