You might read yesterday that Intel announced Moblin v. 2.1 for phones but many don’t know yet what Moblin is at all. Here is quick review of Moblin 2.1.
Moblin – It is “yet another” Linux distribution for phone or so to say mobile devices. Moblin can be used on notebooks and all portable devices. Now the Moblin 2.1 is just newer version which is supported on phones where Moblin 2.0 can only be supported on desktops/notebooks.
Moblin will be a good competitor to current existing Phone Operating Systems such as Symbian, Blackberry, iPhone, Android, webOS, Maemo, LiMo, Openmoko. Moblin 2.1 has that social media type of feeling which reminds me “to be honest” of the new Android OS 2.0 (Droid).
At the IDF2009 conference there was not much mentioned about it, Intel just wanted to pretty much impress the public with the new Operating System for the phones after all they have to keep up with Motorola and other vendors tho.

Moblin 2.1 has no official carrier nor release date so far the prediction is that Moblin 2.1 is going to be handed over to not only one but all carriers and you will start seeing Moblin 2.1 powered devices Q1 of 2010.
Here is screenshot of Moblin in action on notebook now imagine that screenshot on 17 inch screen to 3.0 inch screen and you get Moblin 2.1 how’s that for imagination?

More news about Moblin 2.1 still to come, with some phone screenshots. For more info about moblin please go to Moblin.org
